BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team welcomed Chatham for its first home contest of the season Saturday.

The Cougars (1-0) defeated the Panthers (0-2), 74-65.

"We played in spurts today," Head Coach Sharay Hall said. "We didn't play our best in the first half, but we came out with more energy in the second. There are still things we need to work on but we progressed from our game last night and that's our goal."

Pitt-Bradford entered the contest having come off its season opener just 21 hours prior on the road at Houghton. 

Shaelyn Snipes recorded a career-high 25 points to lead Pitt-Bradford while Latifah Cain dropped 19 points.

Jennifer Isenberg scored 10 points and pulled in a game-high 17 rebounds to record a double-double.

The two teams played an even first period, but back-to-back three-pointers from the Cougars put them ahead 21-14 into the second.

Chatham the outscored Pitt-Bradford 19-13 in the second period to extend its lead to 40-17 into halftime.

But Pitt-Bradford responded by winning the second half.

Eight points apiece from Snipes and Cain helped spark a run in which the Panthers pulled to within six points, 46-40, with 5:14 left in the period.

However, Chatham responded and took a double-digit lead into the fourth quarter, 59-49. 

Despite outscoring the Cougars 16-15 in the fourth quarter, the Panthers were unable to overcome the deficit and Chatham held on for the 74-65 win in its season opener.

Pitt-Bradford won the battle of the boards, edging Chatham with 49 rebounds to 43. 

Snipes knocked down five of the team's eight three-pointers.

Both teams posted similar shot percentage from the floor, Pitt-Bradford stroking at a 39.7 percent and Chatham at 39.1 percent.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford will head to Lock Haven for a road contest Wednesday.
