GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team earned the No. 3 seed in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament, ending its regular season with a doubleheader split at Pitt-Greensburg Monday.
Pitt-Bradford finishes the regular season 22-16 and 10-8 in AMCC action. The Panthers finished tied with Franciscan but took the No. 3 spot due to tiebreaker rules.
"So proud of this group," Head Coach Tina Phillips said. "We were picked ninth and here we are a three seed. Been a grind playing six games in three days. We got a few days to rest up and regroup."
Penn State-Behrend is the top seed and will host the weekend tournament. Mount Aloysius is the No. 2 seed for the tournament.
D'Youville is in as the No. 5 seed and Penn State-Altoona grabbed the sixth and final playoff spot.
Pitt-Bradford will open the double-elimination tournament Friday against No. 6 Altoona. The winner will take on the No. 2 Mounties.
In Monday's regular-season finale, Pitt-Greensburg took game one 1-0 before the Panthers ended the season with a 2-1 win in game two.
"Today we just didn't get anything going in game one," Phillips said. "Hit some hard balls, but right at people. Kerrigan came back today and pitched a great game after a tough outing last night. The defense played well behind her, but we should have capitalized on a few opportunities."
A third-inning single from Sophia Fratercangelo served as the team's lone hit of game one.
Pitt-Greensburg plated one on a two-out single in the fourth.
The Panthers went down in order the rest of the way and would be unable to match the Bobcats' run.
Jordan Uhing threw all six innings in the circle, scattering six hits.
Then in game two, Gabby Carpenter and Fratercangelo reached base to start the game.
Liz Dzurisin then came through with a two-run single to center, putting the Panthers up 2-0 early.
Pitt-Greensburg managed to get one across to cut the Panther lead to 2-1, but Kerrigan Hoffmann settled in and shut Pitt-Greensburg down the rest of the way for the victory.
Maddy Hillery clubbed a double and a triple along the way.
Hoffmann scattered five hits and a pair of walks in seven innings of work.
2019 marks the Panthers' most successful season since 2014, which was the program's last conference tournament appearance and most recent double-digit AMCC win total. This year's squad is also one victory away from matching the 2014 total of 23 wins.
Friday's AMCC Tournament matchup between the Panthers and Lions will begin the weekend event with first pitch set for 10 a.m.
