BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team split an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader against D'Youville Thursday at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Pitt-Bradford (20-12, 8-4 AMCC) took game one in comeback fashion 5-3 before falling in the nightcap 8-1.

The Panthers' win in game one was the team's fifth-straight and 20th of the season -- the program's most since the 2014 squad won 23 games.

"Loved our comeback in the first game," Head Coach Tina Phillips said. "The sixth inning has been a good inning for us this season. Then the second game just wasn't a typical game for us. But as they say in sports, 'sometimes a loss is good.' I am hoping that's the case. Some players came in and did a nice job and Mel settled things the last four innings."

After the split, Pitt-Bradford remains in third place in the AMCC, trailing Penn State-Behrend (12-2) and Mount Aloysius (10-2) while holding off the 7-5 Franciscan and D'Youville in fourth and fifth place.

In game one, Jordan Uhing took a no-hitter into the fourth to match zeroes with the Spartan hurler, but D'Youville broke the silence with a pair of runs in the fourth on an RBI double and RBI single.

The 2-0 Spartan lead held until the bottom of the sixth, during which the Panthers broke through and rallied for five runs.

Gabby Carpenter scored Grace Dadzaa on a double to center for the Panthers' first run, then came into score on a double from Maddy Hillery.

Later with Hillery and Hannah Lathrop aboard, Madison East ripped a single to right that got under the glove of the right fielder and rolled all the way to the fence.

Hillery and Lathrop scored on the play as East circled the bases, giving the Panthers a 5-2 lead.

D'Youville put together a rally with two outs in the top of the seventh. 

A single followed by a double brought the tying run to the plate, but Uhing struck her out looking to take the win.

With the complete-game win, Uhing improves to 12-3 on the season as she struck out five Spartans and surrendered one earned run.

Carpenter and Hillery had two hits and a double apiece to go along with East's big hit to lead the Panthers' offensive effort.

Then in game two, D'Youville came through with two runs in the first and another in the second for a quick 3-0 lead.

The Panthers got one back in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Mackenzie Bonyak that scored Kendra Colegrove.

But D'Youville rallied for five more in the third, the big hit coming on a two-run triple.

That was it for all the scoring in the contest as neither team was able to get one across the rest of the way.

Carpenter once again grabbed a pair of hits, as did Chandler White and Lathrop.

The Panther defense made four errors in the field.

Kerrigan Hoffmann tossed the first two innings before handing the ball off to Melanie Davis for the last five innings. Both pitchers surrendered three earned runs apiece.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford will host La Roche for its final home games of the season Saturday for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. starts. Prior to the start of the game, Pitt-Bradford will honor its graduating seniors.
