ALTOONA, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team picked up another Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference sweep Saturday, taking both on the road at Penn State-Altoona Saturday.
Pitt-Bradford (19-11, 7-3 AMCC) has now won four straight and nine of its last ten games.
"Good wins today," Head Coach Tina Phillips said. "Been a long time since we swept Altoona, which is a testament to their program. Our defense, especially our outfield (Grace, Madison and Sophia) played awesome today and took away some hits and stopped rallies. Our offense did enough to produce some key runs. Jordan and Kerrigan gave us quality starts."
The Panthers now hold third place in the AMCC, trailing Penn State-Behrend (10-2) and Mount Aloysius (8-2).
Pitt-Bradford got the best of two close games, winning game one 3-0 before taking the second game 3-1.
Jordan Uhing improved to 11-3 on the season with a complete-game shutout in game one, striking out two and scattering four hits and as many walks.
The Panthers scored two of their runs in the top of the first on RBI singles from Liz Dzurisin and Madison East.
Pitt-Bradford grabbed a third run in the fourth as Kendra Colegrove scored on an RBI single from Lindsey Hull.
Uhing and the Panther defense stranded nine Altoona baserunners.
Maddy Hillery and Dzurisin had two hits each to lead a seven-hit Panther effort.
In game two, Pitt-Bradford once again scored in the top of the first as Hillery sent home Gabby Carpenter on a ball in play.
Altoona scored its first run of the day and tied the game up with a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single.
Pitt-Bradford regained the lead in the top of the fifth as Hillery once again scored Carpenter, this time on a sacrifice fly to center.
The Panthers grabbed an insurance run in the seventh as Sophia Fratercangelo sent home Carpenter on a sacrifice fly.
Uhing came on to pitch the seventh and worked a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout to earn the save.
Kerrigan Hoffmann threw six strong innings in the circle to earn the win, striking out one.
Carpenter went 2-for-4 with three runs scored in game two.
Melissa Nye added a pair of hits for Pitt-Bradford.
Up next, Pitt-Bradford will host D'Youville Tuesday and then La Roche Saturday for four-straight home games next week.
