BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team continued its strong play with an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference sweep of Medaille Wednesday at the Kessel Athletics Complex.
The Panthers (17-11, 5-3 AMCC) won game one 8-3 before breaking through late and capturing game two 14-6 in six innings.
With the victories, Pitt-Bradford has now won seven of its last eight and improves to 7-3 at home.
As part of the team's victories, Madison East, Liz Dzurisin and Maddy Hillery recorded their 100th career hits.
Gabby Carpenter recorded six hits and four RBIs in the two games to lead the Panther offense
In game one, Hillery, Katie Marx and Grace Dadzaa had two-hit games as well to power the team's 14-hit effort.
Jordan Uhing improved to 10-3 on the season with the complete-game victory in game one. The sophomore struck out six Mavericks along the way.
Then in game two, Pitt-Bradford combined for 16 hits led by Carpender and Kendra Colegrove with three apiece along with two each from Hillery, East and Dzurisin.
The Panthers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in game one as Lindsey Hull singled home Sophia Fratercangelo, then Carpenter sent her and Dadzaa home on a triple to right.
Then in the third, Pitt-Bradford grabbed two more as Dzurisin scored on a fielding error and Dadzaa scored East on an infield single.
Medaille got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth to bring the score to 5-1, but Pitt-Bradford erased it with a two-run single from Sophia Fratercangelo who later scored on a ball in play by East in the bottom half of the inning.
A sacrifice fly in the fifth and an RBI double in the seventh gave Medaille three total runs for the contest, but that would be all the Mavericks would get and the Panthers hung on for the 8-3 win.
In game two, Medaille started things off with an RBI single in the first but the lead would be short-lived as Hillery scored two with a single to center in the bottom half of the inning.
After the Panthers took a 3-1 lead on a Carpenter RBI single, Medaille rallied for a run in the third and four runs in the fourth to go up 6-3.
But once again, the Panthers erased the deficit in a hurry.
Dadzaa smacked an RBI triple then scored on a Carpenter single in the fourth.
Then in the bottom of the fifth, East clubbed a two-run double to deep left to put the Panthers ahead 7-6.
She later scored on a Melissa Nye sacrifice fly and Dadzaa sent home one on a single to send the game into the sixth with Pitt-Bradford ahead 9-6.
Pitt-Bradford stayed hot into the bottom of the sixth as Dzurisin knocked an RBI single, scored on an error and Colegrove hammered a two-run double.
Jessica Milliron delivered a pinch-hit single that sent home Colegrove and the Panthers took the win via the eight-run rule.
Melanie Davis started in the circle for the Panthers and struck out two in four innings. Kerrigan Hoffmann tossed the final two innings and picked up the win.
Up next, Pitt-Bradford will head to Penn State-Altoona for its first conference road games Saturday.
