BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team opened Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action hosting Penn State-Behrend Wednesday at the Kessel Athletics Complex.

Pitt-Bradford (10-10, 0-2 AMCC) dropped the first contest of the day 9-2 before falling in the second game 11-3.

"Not the day we hoped for," Head Coach Tina Phillips said. "We gave up too many at-bats with two outs. But we will regroup and keep getting better. We still have 16 conference games to focus on."

Maddy Hillery hammered her first carer homer in game two, a solo shot to right center.

In game one, Penn State-Behrend started the game with a leadoff inside-the-park homer.

The Panthers would erase the deficit and gain a 2-1 lead on a two-run double from Hillery in the bottom half.

After a quiet second and third, Behrend erupted for an eight-run fourth inning with seven hits including four RBI singles, an RBI double and an RBI triple.

In the sixth, the Panthers worked three hits but were unable to cash them in and cut into the 9-2 Behrend lead.

The Lions eventually hung on for the victory.

Jordan Uhing tossed all seven innings in the circle for the Panthers, striking out one along the way.

Liz Dzurisin, Sophia Fratercangelo and Hillery had two hits apiece.

Then in game two, Behrend used a one-run single and a two-run single to open up a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.

After the Lions plated a run in the top of the second, the Panthers grabbed two in the bottom of the second as Madison East singled home Hillery and later scored.

But the Lions added three in the fourth to take a 7-3 lead.

Hillery's homer in the bottom of the fourth cut the deficit to 7-4.

A two-run double each in the fifth and sixth innings for the Lions put them ahead 11-3, and they eventually took the game in six innings via the eight-run rule.

Kerrigan Hoffmann started in the circle for the Panthers and tossed 4.1 innings before turning the ball over to Melanie Davis, who threw the final 1.2 innings in relief.

To go along with Hillery's two hits, Maeghan Wynn and Kendra Colegrove had two hits apiece.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford will continue conference play and head to Pitt-Greensburg for a doubleheader Saturday.
