Panthers Head To Elmira Tuesday, Open AMCC Action Hosting Penn State-Behrend Wednesday

BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team will head to Elmira Tuesday for its final non-conference showdown before starting Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Wednesday hosting Penn State-Behrend.

Pitt-Bradford (9-7) has won four-straight games and is coming off a sweep of Westminster in its home opener Sunday.

In game one, Jordan Uhing tossed all seven innings and struck out five to improve to 5-2 on the year.

Grace DadzaaGabby Carpenter and Maddy Hillery had three hits apiece to lead the Panther offense.

Then in game two, Kerrigan Hoffmann held Westminster scoreless into extra innings, allowing Liz Dzurisin to send home Dadzaa on a deep double to left center for the walk-off win.

Uhing is one of the top arms in the conference, tying for the AMCC lead with five wins and sitting fourth with 33 strikeouts.

Hoffmann owns the fifth-best ERA in the AMCC 2.42.

On offense, Dadzaa is tied for third in the conference with seven stolen bases and fourth in the AMCC with a .404 batting average.

Elmira welcomes the Panthers with an 0-2 record having dropped both of its season-opening games last Wednesday at Lycoming.

The Soaring Eagles are looking to improve upon a 2018 season in which they went 8-15 overall and 3-11 in Empire 8 play.

Penn State-Behrend will also play one final non-conference doubleheader before starting conference play, heading to Carnegie Mellon Tuesday.

Entering the week, Behrend owns a 6-6 record.

The Lions, who were expected to finish atop the AMCC in 2019 Preseason Coaches' Poll, are led by AJ Nichols who owns the most RBIs in the AMCC with 14, the second-best batting average at .425 and the second-most wins in the circle with four.

Tuesday's action at Elmira and Wednesday's AMCC opener at the Kessel Athletics Complex will both begin at 3 p.m.
