FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team wrapped up its Florida trip on a high note as it captured wins in both its games Sunday.

In the morning's action, Pitt-Bradford (7-7) defeated Knox 8-2 before beating Crown (Minn.) 7-3 to close out the trip.

"Good way to finish our trip," Head Coach Tina Phillips said. "Nice to see us hit today and for Maddy, East and Meep break out of their slumps today. Hannah and Kendra hit really well in the first game. We got some clutch double plays to get out of some jams. Jordan, Kerrigan and Melanie did a nice job in the circle also."

Pitt-Bradford earned a 6-4 record in its 10 games in Florida.

In game one, Pitt-Bradford hammered 15 hits amounting to eight runs to back a complete-game performance from Jordan Uhing in the circle.

Uhing struck out nine while walking three and surrendering seven hits to improve to 4-2 with six complete games on the season.

Hannah Lathrop put together a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a triple.

Pitt-Bradford got steady offensive contributions from much of its lineup as Kendra Colegrove, Sophia Fratercangelo, Grace Dadzaa and Katie Marx had two hits apiece.

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead as Sophia Fratercanglo singled home Gabby Carpenter and later scored on a first-and-third double steal play.

Colegrove put the Panthers up 3-0 with an RBI single in the second, then Lathrop singled home Liz Dzurisin and came home on a first-and-third double steal play in the third.

Knox scored its first run of the ball game on a single to right in the third to bring the score to 5-1.

Pitt-Bradford and Knox traded runs in the fifth as Dadzaa singled home Maddy Hillery, but then Knox sent one home on a double-play ball in the bottom half.

With Hillery board, Lathrop laced a triple in the right-centerfield gap, then scored on a single up the middle from Betty Fratercangelo to put the Panthers up 8-2.

The Panthers took their hot bats into game two with four runs in the top of the first.

Colegrove dropped one in deep right field for a double that scored Maeghan Wynn, then Dadzaa came home on a ball in play by Lathrop.

The big hit of the inning came on a two-run single from Melissa Nye that scored Hillery and Colegrove.

Crown eventually cut the Panther lead in half with RBI singles in the bottom of the first and third.

But Pitt-Bradford got both runs back in the fourth on a two-run single up the middle by Hillery with the bases loaded.

Then in the fifth, a single from Carpenter gave the Panthers their second run.

Crown wouldn't go quietly, though, as one scored on a seventh-inning rally, but Pitt-Bradford would hold on for the victory.

Kerrigan Hoffmann started in the circle and delivered four innings before turning the ball over to Melanie Davis for 2.1 innings of relief. Hoffmann reentered the game and recorded the final two outs -- which came on a popout-tagged runner double play by Lindsey Hill at third base.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford is scheduled to play its home opener Saturday at the Kessel Athletics Complex against Westminster.
