Late Rally Falls Short As Panthers Drop Both Saturday

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team continued its Florida trip with a pair of games Saturday.

The Panthers dropped the first contest of the day against North Central 7-0 before rallying but falling short against SUNY Brockport 10-8.

"Tough day against two good teams," Head Coach Tina Phillips said. "Happy to see us rally at end of the second game. Just need some bats going in our lineup and sure up some little things. But that is why we are here."

In game one, the Panthers fell behind early against North Central as the Cardinals scored two in the bottom of the first and three in the bottom of the third.

The Panthers found some offensive success in the sixth. Grace Dadzaa singled but was thrown out on the basepaths. Gabby Carpenter also singled but was eventually left stranded.

Two more runs in the sixth for North Central rounded out the scoring for the Cardinals.

Melanie Davis started for the Panthers and went five innings. Maeghan Wynn tossed the final frame for Pitt-Bradford in the circle.

In game two, Brockport held a 10-1 lead after five-and-a-half innings, the Panthers' lone run coming in the fifth on an RBI single from Dadzaa.

The Panthers rallied for three runs in the sixth on a two-run single from Chandler White and a sacrifice fly from Sophia Fratercangelo.

Then in the seventh, RBI knocks from Mackenzie Bonyak and Sophia Fratercangelo along with a two-run double from Liz Dzurisin gave the Panthers four more runs to cut the deficit to 10-8.

But the late rally would end there and Brockport would survive for the win.

Kerrigan Hoffmann started in the circle for the Panthers and tossed all seven innings.

Lindsey Hull added a pair of hits for the Panthers.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford will wrap up its Florida trip with two morning games Saturday against Knox (9 a.m.) and Crown (11 a.m.) at Century Link Sports Complex.
