NAPLES, Fla. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team continued its Florida trip Thursday taking on Lesley and Curry in morning action at North Collier Park.
In a back-and-forth affair, the Panthers (5-5) fell to Lesley 7-6, then defeated Curry 3-0 in the second game.
"Our pitchers threw great," Head Coach Tina Phillips said. "Great bounce-back win. Tough loss in the first game as Kerrigan kept a good lineup in check. Soph was clutch today and glad to see us respond with another split."
In game two, Jordan Uhing tossed a complete-game shutout while striking out four and surrendering just four hits and no walks.
Sophia Fratercangelo came through with two hits and an RBI in each game to lead the Panther offense.
Game one started with a three-run first inning from Lesley.
The Panthers then responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Lindsey Hull ripped a two-run single, and she and Sophia Fratercangelo later scored on a single by Gabby Carpenter.
Lesley regained the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth as two runs came in on a Panther fielding error with the bases loaded and another scored on a sacrifice fly.
But Pitt-Bradford would tie it at 6-6 in the sixth as Liz Dzurisin drove home Chandler White on a single to left center.
The winning run for Lesley came into score in the seventh on a dropped fly ball in the Panther outfield.
Kerrigan Hoffmann went the distance and struck out one while surrendering four earned runs.
The Panther defense tightened up in game two and stayed error-free and made a number of rally-saving diving and leaping plays behind Uhing.
All the scoring came early for the Panthers as they plated one in the first as Carpenter came into score on a double right from Dzurisin.
Then in the second, Kendra Colegrove scored on an error and Sophia Fratercangelo scored Carpenter with a single to round out the Panther scoring.
Uhing and the Panther defense would prove strong enough to hold Curry scoreless throughout the remainder.
Curry made six errors on defense in the contest.
Pitt-Bradford will be in action next on Saturday with a pair of games against North Central (Ill.) and SUNY Brockport at Century Link Sports Complex.
