FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team got its Florida trip off to a strong start Tuesday, picking up wins in its first two games against Blackburn and SUNY Canton.
Pitt-Bradford defeated Blackburn 8-1 in the morning's action before coming through with a convincing 10-0 victory in five innings against Canton.
"Great way to start," Head Coach Tina Phillips said. "We did a lot of great things and got contributions up and down the lineup. Dominating performances from Kerrigan and Jordan. Just looking to keep it going."
With the results, Pitt-Bradford moves to an even 3-3 on the season.
In game one, a pair of hits each from Grace Dadzaa, Maddy Hillery and Mackenzie Bonyak led the way on offense.
Dadzaa delivered a two-run single in the fifth while Hillery had a pair of RBI hits -- one a double and the other a single.
The Panthers got another strong performance in the circle from Kerrigan Hoffmann, who went all seven innings allowing just five hits and striking out four to move to 2-0 on the season.
A steady offensive effort, Pitt-Bradford scored a pair of runs in each the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.
In game two, 10 runs on nine hits backed a shutout performance from Jordan Uhing in the circle, who tossed all five innings, struck out four and walked no one.
Gabby Carpenter scored in the first inning to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead, and then after a quiet second, the Panthers erupted with a seven-run third inning.
Hillery, Katie Marx and Carpenter each delivered a two-run hit -- Carpenter and Marx both with doubles.
Lindsay Hull also scored Hillery on a ball in play to round out the seven runs.
Then in the fourth, Melanie Davis came through with a two-run single that scored Chandler White and Hannah Lathrop to put the Panthers up 10-0.
Uhing then struck out a pair of batters in the top of the fifth on her way to a clean inning to secure the victory.
Pitt-Bradford made no defensive errors in the second game.
Up next, Pitt-Bradford will play two more games Wednesday against St. Joseph (Conn.) and RIT starting at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Century Link Sports Complex.
