BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Bridgewater Sunday, including an extra-innings contest in the second game.

"Tough loss that second game," Head Coach Tina Phillips said. "Didn't come down to the last inning as we went scoreless in final seven. We still have to keep working. We hit better today. Just a lot of hard-hit balls at people. We played two good teams this weekend which will only prepare us for the conference. Just have to keep working. But good to play rather than being back in the gym."

In game two, Pitt-Bradford stormed out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. But Bridgewater chipped away with a run apiece in the second, third and four innings. Down to their final out in the bottom of the seventh, an RBI double tied it and sent the game into extra innings.

The runner placed on second later scored in the bottom of the eighth and Bridgewater completed the sweep with the walk-off win.

Game One: Bridgewater 9, Pitt-Bradford 3

The Panthers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

Grace Dadzaa led off the frame with a single to centerfield, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Betty Fratercangelo and advanced to third on a single from Madison East.

Nicole Nolte then stepped in and grounded to second base, allowing Dadzaa to score.

East then gave the Panthers their second run as she stole home.

But Bridgewater answered, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first – two of which on a home run.

A two-run single from Bridgewater in the bottom of the second gave the Eagles a 6-2 lead after two.

Pitt-Bradford threatened in the fourth as Maddy Hillery hit a two-out single but Karissa Cratty was thrown out at home looking to score.

The Eagles got two more in the bottom of the fourth, using a single and a walk to leadoff the frame and eventually scoring the two runners.

After a quiet fifth, Pitt-Bradford scored a run in the sixth as Jenna Fellows scored Kennedy Cratty on a single to right center.

One more run from Bridgewater in the sixth completed the scoring for the game as three-straight Pitt-Bradford groundouts in the seventh ended game one.

Dadzaa and Nye had a pair of hits apiece to lead the eight-hit effort.

Kerrigan Hoffmann started the game and threw four innings in the circle for the Panthers. Morgan Bellush tossed the final two innings, striking out a pair.

Both defenses made one error apiece.

East stole a pair of bases for the Panthers and Fellows had a stolen base as well.

Game Two (8 Innings): Bridgewater 5, Pitt-Bradford 4

RBI singles from Hillery, Lindsey Hull, Karissa Cratty and Samantha Hribal made up the Panthers' early 4-0 lead in the top of the first.

Hribal worked a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the first, but Bridgewater grabbed its first run of the game in the second, scoring on a bunt single.

Bridgewater then cut the Panthers' lead in half in the third as the Eagles capitalized on a Panther defensive error, bringing the score to 4-2.

A run in the following inning from the Eagles cut the Panther lead to 4-3 after four.

Neither team was able to score in the fifth and sixth innings, and the Panthers eventually took their one-run advantage into the bottom of the seventh.

The Eagles worked a one-out walk, but were eventually down to their final out. However, a double to right center tied the game and the two teams went into extras.

Kennedy Cratty was placed on second base, and moved up on a wild pitch.

With one out, Karissa Cratty flew out to right, and Kennedy Cratty tagged up and ran home on the play. However, it was ruled that she left too early and was ruled out.

In the bottom of the eighth, a sacrifice bunt moved the placed runner to third, and she later scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Eagles the walk-off win.

Hribal tossed all 7.2 innings in the circle, allowing seven hits and scattering three strikeouts. Three of the five Eagles' runs scored went down as earned.

East hit a double and had a pair of hits. Karissa Cratty and Hribal had two hits apiece as well.

Up next, the Panthers are scheduled to open their home portion of the schedule against Westminster on Saturday.
