GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Pitt-Bradford softball team dropped its second straight AMCC doubleheader Sunday, losing a pair of one-run games to Pitt-Greensburg. The Bobcats edged the Panthers 4-3 in the game one and erased a seven-run deficit in game two to stun Pitt-Bradford, 9-8.
Pitt-Greensburg's Aubrey Platek delivered the decisive blow in the opener, a three-run home run in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie.
Madison East and Lindsey Hull cut the deficit to 4-3 with RBI doubles in the sixth, yet the Bobcats' Jaimie Schleicher rebounded to force Jenna Fellow's into an inning-ending groundout. Pitt-Bradford went 1-2-3 in the seventh to suffer its fifth one-run loss of the season.
Morgan Bellush suffered the defeat in the circle, allowing four runs on seven hits in a complete-game effort. She struck out two and did not walk a batter. East, who had a solo home run in the third inning to tie the game at one, led the Panthers with two hits and two RBIs.
Pitt-Bradford jumped out to an 8-1 lead in game two but could not hold on, as the Bobcats stormed back, eventually winning on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Panthers used a six-run second to build their lead, yet would fail to plate another runner over the final five innings. Pitt-Greensburg scored in every frame but one, and a three-run sixth tied the game at eight runs apiece.
The Bobcats' Derica Crowley singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning and stole second to move into scoring position. She scored two batters later on Schleicher's single to left field.
The two teams combined for 35 total hits and seven errors. Maddy Hillery and Betty Fratercangelo each had three hits apiece for Pitt-Bradford, and Melissa Nye and Hull both drove in a pair of runs.
Cassidy Lewis was charged with the loss, allowing the game-winning run. She relieved Liz Dzurisin, who yielded eight runs on 15 hits in 5.1 innings pitched.
Pitt-Bradford drops to 6-19 on the season and 1-7 in the AMCC. The Panthers will look to bounce back Monday when they host Grove City at 3 p.m.
