The Pitt-Bradford softball team split an AMCC doubleheader with Penn State Altoona Sunday, falling 6-0 in the first game before bouncing back to win 7-3 in game two.

Lions' pitcher Katie Burge stifled the Panthers in the opener, limiting the Blue and Gold to just four hits. 

Penn State Altoona went ahead 1-0 in the first on Burge's RBI hit, and the Lions scored five runs in the middle innings to pull away for good.

Cassidy Lewis suffered the loss for Pitt-Bradford, giving up six runs, three earned, on 12 hits. She walked two and struck out one in six innings. Melissa Nye accounted for two of the Panthers' four hits.

Burge returned to the mound in game two for Penn State Altoona, but the Panthers faired better the second time around against the AMCC Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

Madison East opened the scoring with a RBI double to left field in the first, and Liz Dzurisin followed with a run-scoring single two batters latter. Nicole Nolte pushed the lead to 4-0 with a single to right field, scoring a pair of runs.

Grace Dadzaa and Maddy Hillery led off the second inning with consecutive hits, and both scored on East's base hit to center field. Penn State Altoona cut the deficit in half in the third with three runs, but Dzurisin would keep the Lions off the scoreboard the rest of the way to preserve the win.

Pitt-Bradford added an insurance run in the sixth after Dadzaa scored on an error. The Panthers tagged Burge for nine hits and forced three walks. East and Dadzaa each had two hits and two stolen bases apiece. Dadzaa also scored three runs, and Nolte added two hits.

Dzurisin relieved starter Morgan Bellush in the fourth and immediately ran into trouble, allowing a pair of singles, but she induced an inning-ending double play to end the threat. Dzurisin settled down after that, retiring nine of the final 10 batters, to earn her second win of the season.

Pitt-Bradford improves to 6-15 on the season and 1-3 in the AMCC. The Panthers will host Penn State Behrend Tuesday at 3 p.m.
