Pitt-Bradford softball suffered a pair of one-run losses Saturday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Naples, Florida. The Panthers were blanked by Alverno 1-0 and came up short against Dominican, 6-5.

Cassidy Lewis was the tough-luck loser against Alverno, surrendering one run over seven stellar innings. She gave up just four hits, walked two and struck out two. The Inferno failed to advance a runner past second base over the last four innings, as Lewis

Alverno scratched across the game's only run in the third inning. An error with two outs extended the frame, and the Inferno singled in the eventual game-winning tally on the next play.

Pitt-Bradford stranded a pair of runners in its half of the third and left the tying run standing at third base in the sixth. Alverno's Ashlie Rossi retired the Panthers in order in the seventh to cap a complete-game one-hit gem.

Grace Dadzaa had the team's only hit, an infield single to lead off the bottom of the first. Pitt-Bradford finished the game 1-6 with runners in scoring position.

A pair of long home runs proved to be the difference against Dominican. The Stars socked a three-run shot in the second inning and added a two-run blast in the fifth. Dominican had an RBI single in the third to account for its other run.

Pitt-Bradford jumped ahead on Madison East's run-scoring single in the first, and a pair of RBI groundouts in the sixth inning trimmed the Panthers' deficit to 6-3.

In the seventh, Dadzaa singled with one out, and two batters later, East followed with a base hit of her own. Lewis pinch-hit and was promptly plunked, loading the bases for the Panthers. Sydney Kuderna, who pitched two scoreless innings in the fifth and sixth, was called upon again to close out the game.

She hit the first batter she faced, scoring another Panther run, and walked Jenna Fellows to pull Pitt-Bradford within one. Kuderna closed out the game on the next play though, inducing a soft grounder to retire Melissa Nye.

Sam Hribal took the loss in the circle, allowing all six runs on 10 hits. She struck out one and did not walk a batter but was undone by the two homers. It was the Panthers' fourth one-run loss this week.

East totaled three hits, a RBI and a run scored, and Dadzaa, who is batting .467 to start the season, added two hits and scored twice. Betty Fratercangelo also had a pair of hits for the Blue and Gold.

Pitt-Bradford drops to 4-6 on the season and wraps up its Florida trip Sunday with games against Nichols and Salem State.
