Panthers Close Out AMCC Play with Sweep at Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Oh. - The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team wrapped up its AMCC slate on a winning note, sweeping Franciscan on Saturday afternoon in Ohio.

The Panthers overcame a sluggish start to win the opener, 7-2, before dominating the second game, 9-0, in five innings.

"We got out to a rough start since we hadn't played in a week," said Pitt-Bradford head coach Tina Phillips. "Cassidy battled and we finally generated some good at bats late in the game. Taylor did a nice job working ahead in the second game and our offense clicked early. Amber had a great day for us. We didn't finish where we had planned, but we just have to build for next season."

Amber Fox and Grace Dadzaa led the Panther's offense in the opener, going 1-2 with two RBI each while Jill Fleming, Taylor Collins and Natalie Harding drove in one run each. Cassidy Lewis picked up the win in the circle, surrendering just two runs on nine hits while striking out three and walking one.

Lindsey Finch led off the game with a solo homer for the Barons while Jordan Cunningham added an RBI single.

However, that's all the offense Franciscan could muster on the day.

Dadzaa put the Panthers on the board with an RBI groundout to second in the third.

The Panther offense caught fire in the top of the fifth. Collins tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Harding gave the Panthers the lead with a sacrifice fly of her own. Dadzaa and Fox followed with RBI singles, giving the Panthers a 6-1 lead after five.

Fleming added the Panther's final run of the game with an RBI single to center in the top of the seventh, capping the 7-2 victory in the opener.

Pitt-Bradford built off of the momentum from game one to cruise to a 9-0 victory in game two.

Fox led the Panther's offense with three hits, three stolen bases and two RBI while Dadzaa added two hits and two RBI. Emily Fair finished the game 2-2 with an RBI while Collins, Fleming and Harding drove in one run each in the victory.

Collins picked up the victory with five shutout innings in the circle. She allowed just three hits while striking out one.

The Panthers got out to a hot start, taking a 2-0 lead on sacrifice flies by Collins and Fair.

Pitt-Bradford added three more in the second on RBI singles from Harding and Fox while Dadzaa roped an RBI double. Fleming chipped in with an RBI single to right in the third while Fox scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.

Fox crushed an RBI triple in the fifth and Dadzaa reached on an RBI fielder's choice, leading to the Panthers 9-0 victory in five innings.

The Panthers close out the 2016 season Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader at Juniata. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
