Spartans Shutout Panthers, 4-0, in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team (6-18, 2-6) fell, 4-0, to AMCC foe, D'Youville (12-8, 8-0) on Friday afternoon in Buffalo.

Reigning AMCC pitcher of the year, Kalie McHenry, who has been dominant all season, was brilliant yet again for the Spartans, holding the Panthers to just two hits while striking out seven in a complete game effort.

"We just didn't hit – plain and simple," said Pitt-Bradford head coach Tina Phillips. "We knew it was going to be tough to hit Kalie, but I think we held our own against a very good team. Luckily, we have an opportunity to get right back to action tomorrow."

Liz Dzurisin and Natalie Harding had the Panther's only two hits of the ballgame while Maddy Hillery also reached base on a walk. Cassidy Lewis took the loss, despite allowing just one run on three hits in two innings. Liz Dzurisin allowed one run on three hits and struck out one over the final two innings.

The Spartans got on the board in the bottom of the second on a Mackenzie Kehlenbeck RBI double right back up the middle that plated McHenry who singled earlier in the inning.

D'Youville picked up two more in the bottom of the fourth, extending the lead to 3-0 on an Ashely Colan two-run single to center.

Kehlenbeck then capped the Spartan's scoring with an RBI triple to center in the bottom of the fifth.

McHenry continued to cruise in the circle and D'Youville picked up the 4-0 victory.

Today's contest was a makeup of last week's second game of a doubleheader that was called due to weather. The Spartans won the opener 10-2 in five innings.

The Panthers get right back at it Saturday afternoon, as they host La Roche for an AMCC doubleheader at the Kessel Athletic Complex. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
