PSU-Altoona Takes Two from Panthers

ALTOONA, Pa. - The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team (4-16, 0-4) suffered two tough losses to a red-hot Penn State Altoona (13-5, 4-0) team on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions took game one 7-0 and then won the second game 7-2 to complete the sweep.

"We just didn't hit today," said Pitt-Bradford head coach Tina Phillips. "We are a young team and we showed some improvement today."

Jenna Dean drove in the only two runs of the day for the Panthers, going 1-3 with a double in game two. Nicole Nolte, Meagan Hillard and Natalie Harding added one hit each while Liz Dzurisin allowed just three earned runs in the circle.

Clarissa Keller, Allison Simpson, Mackenzie Strubhar and Kelsey Bristol drove led the Lion's offense with one RBI each while Kate Burge picked up her 10th win of the season with a complete game in the circle.

Penn State Altoona took an early 1-0 advantage in the first, before adding three in the fourth and three more in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

The Lions brought just as much offense in the opener. Morgan Brumbaugh, Ashley Struble , Allison Thompson, Dani Leibowitz and Mackenzie Strubhar drove in one run each in the victory while Burge tossed a two-hit complete game shutout, striking out seven in the circle.

Taylor Collins and Harding had the Panther's only hits in the game.

Penn State Altoona did the majority of their damage with a six-run third inning to take the opener.

The Panthers continue AMCC play Tuesday for a doubleheader at D'Youville beginning at 3 p.m.
