PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford softball team traveled to La Roche College and fell in both games in an AMCC doubleheader, 5-4 and 7-6.
Junior Amber Fox (Warren/Youngsville) went a perfect 3-for-3 on the day with an RBI and a run scored.
The Panthers started out on top in the first game after a leadoff double by Fox allowed senior Bri Stenta (Ridgway/Ridgway) to bring her home on an RBI sacrifice fly to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Red Hawks answered in the bottom of the first after an RBI double to tie the game up at 1-1.
The La Roche offense then collected four hits in the bottom of the third to put three runs up in the inning and take a 4-1 lead over the Panthers.
Pitt-Bradford began to chip away at the lead by scoring one in the fifth and then tied the game in the top of the seventh after RBIs from Fox and junior Meagan Hillard (Bradford/Bradford).
After going into the bottom of the seventh tied at 4-4, the Red Hawks put together three hits, one of them being a walk-off single, as they took game one, 5-4.
During the seventh inning of the game, Stenta collected her 100th hit as a member of the Pitt-Bradford softball team.
In game two the Panthers had three players go 3-for-4 at the plate — Stenta, senior Ang Comilla (Bradford/Bradford) and senior Courtney Schuler (Smethport/Smethport).
The Panthers jumped out on top in the first after back-to-back RBIs from Stenta and junior Leann Bell (Lance/West Branch) for a 2-0 advantage.
The Red Hawks answered with an RBI double to cut the lead to one at 2-1.
Pitt-Bradford continued to hit the ball as they posted three runs in the second inning highlighted by a Stenta two-run homer to make the score 5-1.
The Panthers' defense let the Red Hawks back into the game as an error and a wild pitch helped La Roche plate four runs in the second to tie the game up at 5-5.
The bats went silent for both teams until the top of the six when Comilla put the Panthers on top with an RBI double and a 6-5 lead.
With their backs against the wall, the Red Hawks loaded the bases with nobody out in the inning and scored two runs to win in walk-off fashion, sweeping the Panthers in the process.
The Panthers will take the field next as they host Juniata on April 28th at 4 p.m.
