Panthers get the sweep on Senior Day against Franciscan

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford softball team won their fourth straight AMCC game as they swept the Franciscan Barons on Senior Day, 8-0 and 10-0.

The Panthers started off the game hot as they struck first in the bottom of the second inning scoring four runs on four hits.

Senior Ang Comilla (Bradford/Bradford) got the inning started with a double to right center and went on to score on a wild pitch. Senior Krista Jacobs (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca) helped out her own cause as she drove in two Panthers on a single up the middle and junior Meagan Hillard (Bradford/Bradford) drove in Jacobs on an RBI double down the left field line as the Panthers led 4-0 after the second inning.

The Panthers scored four more in the bottom of the fourth inning after RBIs from Hillard, senior Heidi Lucke (Canton, MI/Canton) and junior Leann Bell (Lance/West Branch) to push the lead to 8-0 after the fourth inning.

Jacobs stayed on to finish off her complete game shutout as the Panthers took game one, 8-0.

The Panthers picked up in game two right where they left off as they posted 14 hits in the game and scored in every inning.

Lucke got the Panthers started in the first inning after an RBI triple put Pitt-Bradford on top early, 1-0.

The Panthers posted four runs in the bottom of the second after two runs in the inning came off of wild pitches by Franciscan and a two-run bomb by senior Bri Stenta (Ridgway/Ridgway) put the Panthers up 5-0 after the second inning.

Senior Courtney Schuler (Smethport/Smethport) got the Panthers on the board again in the third as she drove in the only run in the inning on an RBI single that scored Comilla.

The Barons could not come back after the Panthers expanded their lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth after RBIs from Bell, freshman Taylor Collins (Macedonia, OH/Nordonia), sophomore Jill Fleming (Hamburg, N.Y./ Frontier) and freshman Cassidy Lewis (Bolivar, N.Y./Bolivar-Richburg) to give the Panthers the sweep on senior day as they won game two, 10-0.

Pitt-Bradford head coach Tina Phillips said, "It was a great day for my team as we finally put it together. I am thrilled for a sweep on our senior day. We honored a special group today that we are truly going to miss."

The Panthers will take the field next as they travel to La Roche on April 25 at 1 p.m.
