Panthers get the sweep at home against Hilbert

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford offense put up six home runs on the day as they swept Hilbert College, 12-2 and 10-2.

The Pitt-Bradford got going in the bottom of the first with a solo home run by freshman Brenna Gustin (Wellsville, N.Y./Bolivar-Richburg) to put the Panthers on top 1-0.

The Panthers scored two more in the bottom of the fourth after senior Courtney Schuler (Smethport/Smethport) drove home two with a base hit up the middle to grow the Panthers' lead to 3-0.

The Hawks got the two runs back in the top of the fifth after a double to deep right center scored two, cutting the lead down to 3-2.

The Pitt-Bradford offense exploded for five runs in the fifth after senior Heidi Lucke (Canton,MI/Canton) blasted a two-run home run and later in the inning Gustin hit her second homer of the day to give the Panthers an 8-2 lead.

The Panthers went on to finish off the Hawks in game one after freshman Taylor Collins (Macedonia, OH/Nordonia) belted a solo home run and senior Bri Stenta (Ridgway/Ridgway) hit a three-run home run that would be a walk off as the Panthers 10-run ruled the Hawks, 12-2.

Game two started out with the Hawks getting on top in the first inning, going up 1-0 after a sacrifice fly plated the first run of the game.

The Panthers answered in the bottom of the first after the power kept coming for Pitt-Bradford as junior Meagan Hillard (Bradford/Bradford) smacked a two-run home run and then Lucke drove home another Panther for a 3-1 lead after the first.

Pitt-Bradford scored one more run in the bottom of the second after a dropped fly ball plated another run and a 4-1 lead.

Hilbert got back on the board in the top of the fourth as Jenna Castricone hit a solo home run to cut the Hawks' deficit to 4-2.

The bats continued to work for the Panthers as they put up two more in the bottom of the fourth after RBIs from Hillard and Stenta for a 6-2 lead.

The Panthers scored three more in the fifth after RBIs from junior Leann Bell (Lance/West Branch) and Linnea Pollock (Franklinville, N.Y./Franklinville) gave them a 9-2 lead.

The Panthers put away the Hawks by way of the run rule after Stenta scored on a throwing error, completing the sweep.

The Panthers will take the field again as they host Franciscan for their senior day on April 18.
