Young Wins Mile, Panthers Finish in 5th at Blue Devil Invitational

Fredonia, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team finished their time at the Blue Devil Invitational on Sunday, completing the three-day event with 612 points, which gave them a 5th place finish.

Conan Young started the day off strong as he was able to win the 1650-yard freestyle. Young won the race with a time of 16:54.26, defeating his opponents by more than 22 seconds. Owen Fitzsimmons was also able to finish the long-distance event, finishing in 16th place with a time of 20:53.48.

The Panthers continued their strong start with three finalists in the 200-yard backstroke. Duncan Young was the best finisher for the Panthers, taking 5th place with a time of 2:06.40. Sam Wright finished two spots behind him in 2:09.73. Nathan Ryan also completed the race, taking 11th place with a time of 2:25.62.

Pitt-Bradford had three other swimmers qualify for finals competition. Giulio Minerbi swam in the 100-yard freestyle. He was in the 3rd heat of the event, which he won, taking 17th place with a time of 53.39 seconds. A pair of Panthers qualified for the finals in the 200-yard breaststroke. Eric Reynolds took 12th place with a time of 2:33.17, while Matt Gullotti finished in 14th place with a time of 3:01.71.

The invitational came to an end with one final relay, the 400-yard freestyle. The Panthers had two teams swim in the event. The relay of Sam Wright, Minerbi, Young, and Young finished in 8th place. Their time was 3:28.61. The second Panther relay of Reynolds, Camden Tetenov, Ryan, and Fitzsimmons finished in 14th with a time of 3:53.22.

The Panthers will return to dual meet action after the holiday break, as they will take on AMCC foes Alfred State and Wells in a tri-meet. The event is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2nd at Alfred State's Orvis Center Pool.
