Panthers Swim To Host Alfred For Home Opener Friday

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's and women's swim teams will compete in their first home meet Friday as Alfred comes to the Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center.

The Panthers men's team is coming off a win Saturday while the women's team suffered a defeat at Penn State-Altoona in the teams' first action of 2018-19.

Pitt-Bradford's men's team was led to victory by freshman Caleb Hansen, who in his first collegiate meet picked up three individual victories in the 100, 200 and 500-freestyle events.

Saturday, the Pitt-Bradford's men's team got the day started with a victory in the 200-medley relay as the squad of Nathan KimNoah FrederickChris Troll and Devyn Condon finished with a time of 1:46.54.

Condon then earned the victory in the 1,000-freestyle with a time of 11:52.26, nearly a full minute ahead of his competition.

Kayla Broad picked up the first win of the season for the women's team in the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:15.62.

Caleb Hansen completed the sweep of the event for Pitt-Bradford as he timed in at 1:53.82 for his first career victory, coming in comeback fashion.

Frederick timed in at 2:15.09 in the 200-IM to pick up a victory by nearly four seconds. 

Kim picked up his first career individual win in the 100-butterfly with a time of 54.89.

Hansen's second win of the day came in the 100-freestyle with a time of 52.29, over six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

The second win of the day for Kim came in the 100-backstroke with a time of 58.32 -- the only competitor in the event to finish in under a minute.

The third win of the day for Hansen came in the 500-freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:28.34 and nearly 13 seconds ahead of his competition.

Alexia Garcia earned her first career victory in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:20.84, four seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Frederick rounded out the victories for the Panthers with a win in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:04.89.

Both Alfred men's and women's teams are in search of their first victories of the season having competed against RIT (Oct. 20) and Nazareth (Oct. 26). 

Friday's home opener is set for a 5 p.m. start.
