Condon Inducted Into International English Honor Society

BRADFORD, Pa. – Junior Devyn Condon of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swim team has been inducted into the International English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta.

"This is an extraordinary honor for Devyn to be accepted into Sigma Tau Delta," Head Coach Doug Alban said. "His work in the classroom and his drive to bring back The Source to campus is exceptional. He is very deserving of this distinction."

Condon – who is among multiple students at Pitt-Bradford inducted -- was eligible for acceptance into Sigma Tau Delta after successfully completing two courses in either English language or literature beyond the general requirements in freshman English.

Students must also carry above a 3.0 GPA, rank in the top 35 percentile of their class and complete at least three semesters or five quarters of college coursework for consideration.

In addition to his work in the classroom, Condon also serves as the business manager and writer/reporter for The Source -- Pitt-Bradford's student-run newspaper. He is also secretary of both the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as well as Gamma Psi Omega.

According to the official website, Sigma Tau Delta strives to: Confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies; Provide, through its local chapters, cultural stimulation on college campuses and promote interest in literature and the English language in surrounding communities; Foster all aspects of the discipline of English, including literature, language, and writing; Promote exemplary character and good fellowship among its members; Exhibit high standards of academic excellence; and Serve society by fostering literacy.

With over 900 active chapters located in the United States and abroad, there are more than 1,000 Faculty Sponsors, and approximately 9,000 members inducted annually.

Condon's induction opens up scholarship, internship, writing and other award opportunities, while also encouraging local, regional and national involvement with the International English Society.

In the pool, Condon helped his squad to a Runner-Up finish in the 2018 AMCC Championship Meet. He captured third place in the 200-butterfly championship with a time of 2:04.13 to highlight his performance.
