UPB Swimmer Devin Kerr Earns Firefighter of the Year Award

Pitt-Bradford freshman swimmer Devin Kerr was recently named the Lewis Run Fire Department Firefighter of the Year.

Kerr received his award from fire chief Don Mason during a ceremony on Jan. 28. In addition, he was awarded a pin for his five years of service. Kerr joins his parents, Allen and Tracy, as recipients of the department's top individual honor.

The award came as no surprise to Pitt-Bradford head swimming coach Doug Alban.

"I am always impressed by the amount of things our athletes do in addition to being students and athletes," Alban said. "Knowing the attitude that Devin brings day in and day out to the pool, it is no surprise that he received this award as I know he brings that same attitude to all of his ventures.

"I am very proud of Devin for receiving this award and believe that it is very well deserved."

A graduate of Bradford Area High School, Kerr is a computer information systems and technology major and has helped the Panthers to four dual wins this season while balancing his duties as a volunteer firefighter.

The Pitt-Bradford swimming teams will travel to Erie Wednesday for the start of the 2017 AMCC Championships.
