Hayakawa Named To All-AMCC Third Team

2017 Men's Soccer All-Conference Team & Award Winners

BRADFORD, Pa. – Junior Ryuta Hayakawa of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team has been named to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Third Team, officials announced Tuesday.

"Ryuta was a great addition to the team this year," Head Coach Nathan Whitehurst said. "A lot of our play went through him, and a lot of our offense was created by him." 

In his first season with the Panthers, Hayakawa tied for the team lead with three goals.

The Kyoto, Japan, native scored his first two goals of the season on Sept. 13 against Alfred State, the first goal giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead early in the second half and his second on a penalty kick with under 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

He followed up his two-goal performance with a clutch strike in the following game against Juniata on Sept. 16. With the match tied, 2-2, Hayakawa broke free and collected a through ball, sending it past the charging keeping with under three minutes left in regulation to give the Panthers their first victory of the season.

For his week that included three timely goals, he was named the AMCC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 18. 

Hayakawa finished the season with 24 shots, the most on the team. Of those 24 shots, he put 11 on goal.

A mainstay on the pitch, Hayakawa appeared in all 18 matches while starting 15.
