BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team fell, 3-1, to Penn State-Behrend Wednesday in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match at the Kessel Athletics Complex.
"I thought we played well today," Head Coach Nathan Whitehurst said. "It was a lot of defending, but we held tough except for a few mistakes, and then got the goal at the end of the game which was a positive."
Penn State-Behrend got on the board first as a ricochet off a Pitt-Bradford defender landed in front of Matt Dziadosz, who then sent it into the back of the net at the 9:07 mark.
A header goal for Behrend at the 37:27 mark sent the Lions into the break ahead, 2-0.
Pitt-Bradford keeper Derrick Brock saw seven shots on goal in the half and stopped five of them.
The Lions controlled the offensive possession for the early part of the second half, but the Panthers had their chances.
At the 75:15 mark. Wyatt May lined a shot up but fired it high.
Later at the 83:17 mark, Noah Black ripped a shot in traffic that was blocked before it could reach the Behrend keeper.
At the 85:49 mark, Behrend took a 3-0 lead as a through ball got past the last line of the Pitt-Bradford defense.
But the Panthers wouldn't go quietly, as Ethan Acaster rifled a pass on the ground down the middle that connected perfectly with a cutting Tyler Koch, who received the pass in close and shot it past the Behrend keeper for his first goal of the season.
Koch's goal would be the last of the match as the 3-1 score lasted until the final whistle.
In total, Brock made eight saves in goal for the Panthers.
Ryuta Hayakawa led the way for the Panthers with a pair of shots. May, Koch and Noah Black fired a shot apiece.
The Panthers will be in action next as they play host to Mount Aloysius Saturday for Senior Day.
