BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team put together its best offensive performance of the year by scoring three goals but worked a draw with Alfred State, 3-3, Wednesday afternoon at the Kessel Athletics Complex.

"Offensively, we did really well," Head Coach Nathan Whitehurst said. "However, we had some costly mistakes, and just could not find anything in overtime."

The Panthers got on the board early as they took advantage of a corner kick opportunity. 

Tyler Koch took the kick from the right corner and found Steven McFetridge just outside of the box, who booted the ball into the upper-left corner to put the Panthers up, 1-0, eight minutes into the game.

Just eight minutes later, though, the Pioneers knotted the game at 1-1 as Brandon Holley got past the Panthers' defense and finished.

The two teams went into the half tied. Pitt-Bradford had six shots while Alfred had five attempts in the half.

Just after the start of the half, though, Ryuta Hayakawa received a through ball and danced around multiple defenders before juking out the keeper and putting the ball in the back of the net for his first goal of the season, giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead.

At the 63-minute mark, the Pioneers got the goal back and once again leveled the score as a long, looping kick from about 28 yards out on the right side went over the Panthers' defense and over the head of Pitt-Bradford keeper for the equalizer. 

The Panthers' offense wasn't done, though.

With just over 10 minutes left in regulation, Hayakawa was fouled inside the box and awarded a penalty kick.

He delivered, scoring his second goal of the game and giving Pitt-Bradford a 3-2 lead late.

But a controversial play would eliminate the Panthers' lead.

At the 84:42 mark, the Panther defense went to clear a ball deep down the middle, but the attempt ricocheted off Holley and was sent back toward the Pitt-Bradford goal. 

Matthew Perry stormed back to field the ball, as it looped closer and closer to the UPB goal line. He got a foot on it and seemed to send the ball safely out of bounds. However, after a meeting amongst the officials, the call was overturned, and the officials ruled that the ball crossed the line, tying the score at 3-3. 

Neither team broke through in the final five minutes of regulation and the Panthers went to overtime for the first time all season. 

The Panthers pressed during the first overtime period as they put three shots on goal, but could not get one home, and the game was sent to the second overtime period.

Pitt-Bradford managed one shot in the second overtime, and Alfred State had a pair, including one that looked destined for the goal at point-blank range that Derrick Brock was able to body and keep out of the goal.

With neither team scoring in overtime, the game ended in a 3-3 tie, with the Panthers earning their first draw of the season.

Pitt-Bradford outshot the Pioneers, 17-15, capturing a new season high for shot attempts in a single game.

Of the 17 shots, nine went on goal. Hayakawa put all three of his shot attempts on goal, while McFetridge, T.J. Magro, Ethan Acaster, Colin Irwin, Nicholas DiStefano and Kotch all forced the keeper to make one save.

Brock made six total saves.

The tight score created a physical game, as both teams were whistled for 12 total fouls.

The Panthers will be in action next as Juniata comes to town for 3 p.m. kickoff Saturday.
