Panthers fall 2-1 in final minutes of play

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to Juniata College, 2-1, after the Eagles scored to take the lead with two minutes to play.

Despite being outshot 17-7 during the contest, Pitt-Bradford (0-6) entered the second half trailing just 1-0. Goalkeeper Colin Frownfelter mustered eight saves after Juniata (1-3) fired a total of 17 shots.

Junior Brian Bao led all panthers with three shots, followed closely by freshman Steven McFetridge with two. Freshman Ethan Acaster managed to tally the lone goal of the game for Pitt-Bradford. The goal was the first for Acaster in a Panther uniform. Also registering a shot on goal was freshman Trey Mason.

It appeared as if it could be a long afternoon for head coach Darek Panol and the Panthers when Juniata's Dani Meyer-Arrivilla headed in a cross from Patrick McEvoy in the eighth minute of play.

After surrendering an early marker, Pitt-Bradford's defense bowed its neck and did not allow another shot to cross the line throughout the first half.

Entering the second period, the Panthers looked for their offense to find a way to obtain the equalizer. That wish came in the 58th minute. At that time, senior Seth Levy found Acaster for a shot that worked its way past the net minder and into the goal for the 1-1 tie.

It appeared as if the contest would go to extra time when the Eagles created an opportunity in the final minutes. Juniata's Meyer-Arrivilla scored his second goal of the afternoon off a pass from Adam Heller in the 88th minute to end any chance of a Pitt-Bradford victory.

The Panthers return to the field on Sunday, Sept. 14, as they travel to face Alfred State. First touch is set for 2:30 p.m. in Alfred, N.Y.
