Second half surge lifts Panthers over Tomcats, 4-0

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford men's soccer team used a strong second half performance offensively to put four goals on the board and defeat the Thiel Tomcats 4-0 on Thursday afternoon at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Pitt-Bradford (0-8) did not struggle moving the ball the entire match and did so at will in the second period. At halftime, the Panthers had outshot the Tomcats, 7-4.

Sophomore goalkeeper Colin Frownfelter needed just four saves to capture his first shutout between the posts. Thiel (2-4) fired a total of seven shots during the contest, while the Panthers tallied 19.

Freshman Trey Mason led the team with four shots at the net but failed to land one behind the keeper.

With nearly 67 minutes ticked off the clock, junior Brian Bao received a pass from sophomore Alessandro Ortiz that he laced into the net for the 1-0 advantage.

10 minutes later, freshman Steven McFetridge registered his first goal in a Panther uniform when he scored on an unassisted shot. The goal gave Pitt-Bradford a 2-0 lead.

A Tomcats' penalty in their own box seven minutes later gave the Panthers their first penalty kick of the year. Junior Josiah Blick took the kick and buried it in the bottom left corner of the net to put the Panthers up 3-0.

Just three minutes later, senior Seth Levy set up for a free kick nearly 50 yards from the goal on the near sideline. Levy's kick took a 90-degree bend and sailed past the goalkeeper's outstretched fingertips, landing in the upper right 90 of the net to bring the game to its final tally.

With the win, Pitt-Bradford puts one in the win column for the first time this season. The Panthers return to the field on Tuesday, Sept. 23, as they travel to face Houghton at 7 p.m.
