Panthers Take Successful 2017 Season Into AMCC Championship Tournament

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's golf team will compete in the two-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships Sunday and Monday at the Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club in Warren, Ohio.

The Panthers are scheduled to tee off Sunday in the second group at 11:50 a.m. with Pitt-Greensburg and Medaille.

Pitt-Bradford twice earned the top team score and finished in the top two four times in its nine matches in the 2017 regular season.

The 2017 season was highlighted by the Panthers' team score of 301 in their win at Penn State-DuBois on Sept. 13, which is the lowest team score recorded in program history. The program's previous low score was 306, first coming in 2002 and later tied in 2006.

Leading the way for the Panthers this season was freshman Cary Ignaczak, who shot a 77.71 average score with a low of 72. The Hamburg, N.Y., native's average was good for sixth best of all 79 golfers in the AMCC.

Matt Moonan has played his best golf toward the end of the season, shooting a team-best 75 on Sept. 25 to lead the Panthers to a second-place finish at Westminster. For his performance in the event, the Bradford, Pa., native was named the AMCC Player of the Week.

Like Ignaczak and Moonan, Brett Gardner and Jamie Rook have played all nine matches. Gardner recorded a season low of 78, while Rook fired a career-best 71 at Penn State-DuBois.

Another mainstay in the Panthers' lineup this season, Sam Marchini fired a season-low score of 78 on Sept. 16 at Penn State-Altoona.

Monday's action will commence at 9:00 a.m., with pairings determined by the Day One results. The tournament team champion will receive the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, which will be held May 15-18 in Greensboro, N.C.
