Panthers Falter in 2nd Half, Fall to Bobcats 93-83

Greensburg, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team lost a 10-point second-half lead at Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Bobcats 93-83.

  • The Panthers jumped ahead after two minutes of scoreless action as Greg Archie hit a three-pointer to break the ice. Nathan Schneider responded to three Bobcat free throws with a layup and after the hosts quickly tied the game, Isaiah Archie scored 4 straight to give the Panthers an early advantage. The lead didn't last long as the Bobcats quickly took a 1 point lead of their own before a Greg Archie layup sent the game to a timeout with the Panthers leading 11-10.
  • As the teams continued to battle back and forth, Isaiah Archie took the lead for the Panthers, scoring 8 straight. Archie hit two corner threes and made a layup in transition in a minute-long span. Neither team was able to gain any momentum over the following 5 minutes of play, as they continually responded to their opponents' baskets, keeping the game within one possession for 6 minutes of action. This ended when the Panthers scored 7 straight to jump ahead. Schneider made back-to-back baskets to start the rally, and Trey Oyler splashed a pull-up three to put the Panthers up 39-32. Schneider and Dylan Meyer added layups in the final two minutes, but the Bobcats were able to claw back to within two points at halftime.
  • Isaiah Archie started the second half off with fireworks as he threw down a powerful slam dunk on the Panthers' first possession. The Bobcats answered with 7 straight to erase the Panther lead and jump ahead by three, but Oyler provided an immediate response to tie the game back at 48. The teams once again traded baskets until the 14:00 minute mark, when the Panthers scored 10 in a row to jump ahead 66-56. Greg Archie started the rally with an old-fashioned three-point play and then added two driving layups. Schneider added a free throw and Meyer scored inside to give the Panthers the 10-point edge.
  • The hosts were able to quickly erase the lead and more, scoring 13 in a row to go ahead of the Panthers 69-66. Nathan Schneider was able to slow the Bobcat charge with a jump shot, but it did not keep them down for long as they added six more to push their lead to 7 with 6:49 to go. The Bobcats quickly lead methodically grew to double digits, as the Panthers were never able to get closer than 6 points in the final 4 minutes of play.

Isaiah Archie led the Panthers with 21 points on the day. He made 8-15 from the field, including 3-7 from three. Nathan Schneider recorded his 8th straight double-double, accounting for 18 points and 13 Rebounds. Greg Archie scored 18 as well, as he was extremely efficient in the game, making 7-10 from the field, 1-2 from deep, and 3-3 from the line. Trey Oyler added 15 for the Panthers, making 5-5 from beyond the three-point line.

The Panthers are now 9-12 on the season with a 4-8 record against AMCC opponents. They currently sit in 7th place, just outside the AMCC playoffs, but will host Medaille on Wednesday in a contest that will have major implications on the Panthers' playoff chances. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
