Panthers Unable to Keep Up with Mounties in Second Half

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Men's Basketball team led their visitors from Mount Aloysius for the majority of the opening half of play Saturday but were unable to keep up in the second half, falling by a score of 66-49.

Game Notes:

  • Daniel Lynch got the Panthers started on their first possession of the game, responding to a Mount Aloysius three with one of his own from the top of the key. After the three-pointers on the opening possessions, both teams locked down defensively, keeping each other scoreless for the next 4 minutes of play. Lynch ended the drought with 14:16 to go in the half, hitting a pull-up jumper from just outside the lane.
  • The Mounties moved ahead of the Panthers on the next two possessions, hitting three free throws and a jumper, but Pitt-Bradford scored 7 unanswered to retake the lead. Dylan Meyer hit a jumper to start the rally and after forcing a shot clock violation, Alex Breindel made a reverse layup on a Pass from Lynch. Lynch picked up a steal on the next trip down the floor and raced down court to make a layup through contact and convert the old fashioned three-point play.
  • Following a Mountie slam dunk to slow the momentum, Breindel and Alex Rodriguez added to the lead, each hitting deep threes. A few possessions later, Nick Carmichael hit a three to push the Panther advantage to 9, its largest of the contest. Mount Aloysius locked down on defense for the remaining 7 minutes of the first half, allowing the Panthers to score just 7 more points before the break. In the span, the Mounties were able to climb back into the game and take a 3 point lead over the Panthers. Lynch came through on the final possession of the half for Pitt-Bradford, hitting a mid-range jumper with 8 seconds left to put the Panthers down 1 at halftime.
  • The Panthers were unable to break the Mounties' defensive pressure after the break, as Mount Aloysius held them to 8 points over the opening 10 minutes of the second half. This scoring drought allowed the Mounties to open up a 17 point lead.
  • Nick Carmichael looked to get the Panthers back in the game around the 10-minute mark, making two straight baskets inside but saw them answered by the visitors.
  • A Miles Parker three with 6:40 to go cut the lead to 12, but that was as close as the Panthers would get to the Mounties, who pushed back ahead from the free-throw line to finish the game.

Leaders:

  • Daniel Lynch led all scorers with 17 points. He made 7 of 11 from the field, including 1 of 2 from three. He also made 2 out of 3 from the line. He had 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block.
  • Nick Carmichael was the only other Panther to finish in double figures. He scored 10 points.
  • Dylan Meyer was the team's leading rebounder, as he finished with 6 boards.

The loss moves the Panthers to 1-22 on the season and 0-18 in AMCC play. They will be back in action on Wednesday, February 19th, as they host D'Youville College at 6:00 p.m.
