BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team put forth its best offensive game of the season but Medaille would come out on top, 117-111, in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference overtime thriller Wednesday.
"I think offensively we came out focused and looked to actively make plays," Head Coach Sean Brown Sr. said. "We took the fight to them today. Our initial defense was solid but we got killed on the boards and inside."
An evenly matched affair, the lead changed hands 22 times and was tied 21 times. Neither team held a double-digit lead at any point.
The setback puts the Panthers at 3-19 on the season and 2-13 in AMCC games, while Medaille jumps to 13-9 and 10-5.
The 111 points scored by the Panthers are a single-game season high, besting the 110 scored against Penn State-Berks on Nov. 18 earlier this season.
Reggie Rogers scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Panthers.
Desmond Brogsdale poured in 21 points and grabbed 12 boards for a double-double.
Three more Panthers scored in double-figures as Dylan Mitchell dropped 17, Christian Kelly-Perkins scored 14 and Colby Mills added 12.
The Panthers as a team knocked down 14 three-pointers, the most all season.
Rogers led the way, going 5-7 from long range while Mills went 4-8 on three-point field goals.
Scoreless in the first minute-and-a-half of the game, Reggie Rogers got the scoring started for the Panthers with a jumper.
Down 7-6, the Panthers took the lead after Christian Kelly-Perkins knocked down a jump shot at the 16:30 mark.
Neither team was able to take a strong lead, as the Panthers and Mavericks traded buckets for the next few minutes. A three-pointer from Kelly-Perkins with nine minutes remaining in the half put Pitt-Bradford ahead two possessions, 28-24.
The two teams held a 43-43 tie with 3:35 remaining in the half, but seven points from Brogsdale down the stretch helped the Panthers take a 52-49 lead into the half.
Mitchell and Rogers had 13 points in the first half while Brogsdale finished with 11.
Harris stole the ball on the Mavericks on their first possession of the half and the Panthers capitalized on the opportunity with a three-pointer, putting Pitt-Bradford ahead 55-49.
Pitt-Bradford held the lead for many more minutes but Medaille battled back and took a 62-61 advantage at the 13:51 mark.
Down 87-82 with 5:39 left, Mills hit a three-pointer followed by a layup from Brogsdale to tie the game up once again.
Medaille later held a 97-93 lead with 2:13 left, but a layup from Mitchell and a three-pointer followed by a pair at the free-throw line from Rogers put the Panthers ahead 100-97 with just over a minute left in regulation.
Two at the free-throw line followed by an "and-one" for Medaille with 15 seconds left put the Mavericks head, 102-100.
Brogsdale drew the foul on the Panthers' final possession and knocked down both at the line to send the game into overtime.
But the Panthers would never lead in overtime as the Mavericks outscored them, 15-9, in the extra period and hold on for the 117-111 win.
Rogers tied for a game-high eight assists in addition to his scoring output.
The team shot exceptionally well from the free-throw line, going 23-27 from the stripe.
There were many fouls called in the contest as both teams were whistled for a combined 62 fouls.
Wednesday's game is the first overtime contest of the Panthers' 2017-18 season.
