BRADFORD, Pa. – After beginning its season with three games away from the KOA Arena, the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team will play its home opener Wednesday, welcome Hilbert for its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup of the 2017-18 season.
Pitt-Bradford began its season in the Hilton Scranton Invitational hosted at Scranton University, picking up a win in its second game of the event over Penn State-Berks on Nov. 18.
The 110-103 scoring outburst set a new Long Center record for combined points in a game, beating a previous mark set on Dec. 21, 1974 in a 118-88 Scranton win.
Pitt-Bradford's 110 total points were the most the Panthers had scored in a single game since Pitt-Bradford scored 112 against Mount Aloysius on Jan. 6, 2006.
In the win, Sahlil Harris earned a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds. He also dished eight assists and had as many steals, two away in each category away from the rare quadruple-double
Most recently, the Panthers competed at Keuka on Tuesday, Nov. 21, in the final game before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Pitt-Bradford outscored the Wolves, 51-50, in the second half, but ultimately fell, 96-80.
Colby Mills lit it up from long range, knocking down seven three-pointers, the most a Panther has registered in a single game since Jess Whelan also made seven on Nov. 28, 2007. Mills led the game with 27 points, a new season high for Pitt-Bradford.
Mills leads the conference with 12 three-pointers this season and 4.0 three-balls per game. Jeffrey Fry averages the second-most in the AMCC with three three-pointers per game.
The top scorer so far this season for Pitt-Bradford, which is the most explosive offense in the conference at 93.0 points per game, has been Desmond Brogsdale with 17.0 points per game, which ranks fourth in the conference. At 15.0 points per game, Harris is the 10th top scorer in the AMCC.
Through three games, Jacob Sutton boasts a perfect field goal percentage, connecting on all seven of his shot attempts.
On the defensive side of the ball, Harris has swiped 14 steals in the team's first three games, and his 4.7 steals per game lead the conference.
Dylan Niedermeyer, who leads the team with 31.7 minutes per game, also holds the top rebounding total on the Panthers and the second-best mark in the AMCC with 8.7 boards per game.
Christian Kelly-Perkins will be returning to the Panthers' lineup for his first action of the 2017-18 season Wednesday night.
Pitt-Bradford's home opener will be the first game of a doubleheader with the Panthers women's team. Wednesday's game is set for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
About Hilbert:
- The Hilbert Hawks come into the KOA Arena with a 2-2 mark, picking up wins over Fredonia (Nov. 18) and Alfred (Nov. 25). Wednesday will be the team's first conference action of the season.
- As a team, Hilbert averages 75.8 points per game and has held opponents to 76.5 points per game. The Hawks also take care of the ball, averaging the fewest turnovers per game in the AMCC at 11.5.
- Leading the way for the Hawks is AMCC Preseason Player of the Year and DIII News Preseason Honorable Mention All-American Jalen Smith, whose 16.3 points per game and 10 three-pointers made lead the team.
- Four more Hawks average double-figure scoring totals: Hunter Martineau (11.8), Masia Phillips (10.8), Nicholas Parucki (10.3) and Joseph Braniecki (10.0).
