Pitt-Bradford basketball players Evan Greening and Ali Rinfrette were named 2016-17 D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region second-team selections Monday.
More than 700 players were nominated nationwide, and the all-region teams were chosen by sports information directors around the country. This is the 16th season D3hoops.com has named an all-region team.
It marks the second time in Greening's career he has been honored by D3hoops.com and the first for Rinfrette.
Greening, a senior from Fredericksburg, Virginia, led the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference in scoring (20.2) and rebounding (14.3) for the second straight season, and he was one of three players in NCAA Division III this season to average more than 20 points and 13 rebounds a game. He ranked in the top five nationally in double-doubles (20), offensive rebounds per game (5.56) and rebounds per game.
Greening, who was named the Great Lakes Region Rookie of the Year as a freshman, broke the AMCC record for total rebounds in a season (328) this year, finishing with 357 total boards, and his per-game average is a new league record. He was a first-team all-conference selection for the second consecutive year.
In addition to being named all-region, Greening is a member of the 2017 Allstate NABC Good Works Team®, one of 10 finalists for the 2017 Jostens Trophy and appeared on the Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List.
Rinfrette, a junior from Bradford, was named the AMCC women's basketball Player of the Year after ranking second in the AMCC in scoring at 21.6 points per game and leading the conference in total points (584), field goals made (203), three-pointers made (71) and three-point field goal percentage (38.4). She also ranked in the top 10 in several other categories, including minutes played (900), free throws made (104), defensive rebounds (89), total rebounds (189), assists (81), and steals (75).
Her 38 points at home against D'Youville on Jan. 9 were a Pitt-Bradford single-game record, and she drilled a program-record eight three-pointers against Hilbert on Jan. 18.
Rinfrette will enter her senior year needing just 96 points to break the school's all-time scoring record, and she is the second Panther to ever receive D3hoops.com all-region honors, joining Alicia Kimmel (2014-15).
