Pitt-Bradford senior Evan Greening was named to the 2017 Allstate NABC Good Works Team®, one of only 10 players from NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and the NAIA to receive the honor.

The news was announced Tuesday by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and Allstate Insurance Company.

For the fifth year, this prestigious award recognizes a unique group of men's college basketball student-athletes for their impressive commitment to bettering communities all over the world and positively impacting the lives of those around them.

In addition to being one of only 10 players named in all three divisions in the NCAA, Greening was one of only five selected from Divisions II and III and the NAIA. Greening, who leads the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference in rebounding and is second in scoring, is the third men's basketball player from the league to receive this honor. The others are Mt. Aloysius' Aaron Patrick (2014) and Penn State Altoona's Joel Redfoot (2015).

"This award is extremely meaningful because it encompasses the qualities possessed by Division III athletes everywhere," Greening said. "It's an honor to represent D3 athletes who are continuing to be leaders in the classroom and in their communities while competing solely for the love of their sport."

In addition to excelling on the court, Greening has volunteered with Special Olympics, the American Red Cross, Read Across America, a program in which volunteers read to elementary students, and the Mountain Lion Backpack program, helping provide lunches for students who are unable to afford their own. The Fredericksburg, Va., native is an Eagle Scout and has also worked in his local community labeling storm drains to prevent dumping of toxic waste that flows to the Rappahannock River.

Additionally, Greening has worked at numerous basketball camps, including free clinics for young athletes who are unable to attend paid elite camps.

In the classroom, Greening maintains a 3.5 GPA as a dual-major in history/political science and social studied education and is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the student-athlete honor society, and Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society.

"This award is a tremendous honor for Evan, the program, and the school," head men's basketball coach Britt Moore said. "He is a relentless worker on and off the floor, and it will be amazing to see him recognized on national television representing Pitt-Bradford."

Joining Greening on the 2017 Allstate NABC Good Works Team® from NCAA Divisions II and III and the NAIA are Bryce Allen (North Greenville University), Jeremy Deemer (Graceland University), Keith Griffin (Wingate University) and Steven Weidlich (Susquehanna University).

Steven Cook (Princeton University), Billy Garrett Jr. (DePaul University), Monte Morrie (Iowa State University), Rand Rowland (Georgia Institute of Technology) and Sabri Thompson (Northwestern State University of Louisiana) from NCAA Division I completed the 10-man team.

A record 181 nominations from colleges and universities across the country were submitted for deserving student-athletes. A voting panel headlined by former seven-time NBA All-Star Grant Hill and current two-time WNBA All-Star Skylar Diggins narrowed the field of nominations to 10 recipients.

Members of the Allstate NABC Good Works Team® will be invited by Allstate, an official corporate partner of the NCAA, to be recognized at the 2017 NABC Convention and 2017 NCAA Men's Final Four® in Phoenix, where they will participate in a community project to benefit the city.

"It will definitely be an honor to represent Pitt-Bradford on a national level," Greening said. "The university has given me so much in the time I have been fortunate enough to be a student here."

Allstate also partners with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association to select an annual Good Works Team comprised of 10 women's basketball student-athletes from around the country.

"For five years, the Allstate Good Works Team program has showcased men's and women's basketball collegiate athletes for their extraordinary benevolent actions performed away from the court," Jim Haney, NABC executive director, said. "We applaud the group of 20 selected for this year's teams whose humanitarian efforts have helped raise the human spirit locally, nationally and globally."

In addition to Hill and Diggins, the 2017 Allstate NABC Good Works Teams® selection panel members include: former college basketball student-athletes Clark Kellogg (Ohio State University / CBS Sports), Len Elmore (University of Maryland /FOX Sports / ESPN) and Alana Beard (Duke University); media members Seth Davis (Sports Illustrated / CBS Sports), Dana O'Neil (ESPN), LaChina Robinson (ESPN / FOX) and Brenda VanLengen (ESPN / FOX Sports); former head coaches Bobby Cremins (Georgia Tech / College of Charleston), Seth Greenberg (Virginia Tech), Marsha Sharp (Texas Tech University) and Nell Fortner (Auburn University); current coach Coquese Washington (Penn State University); and Thomas Clarkson, president of the west territory for Allstate Insurance Company.
