Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List

Pitt-Bradford's Evan Greening has been named to the Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award Top 100 Watch List, which was announced Sunday morning by Small College Basketball.

The Bevo Francis Award is presented annually to the player with the top overall season in the country among schools in NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA Division I, NAIA Division II, USCAA and NCCAA.

The selection committee consists of university presidents, coaches and sports information directors from across the country, and players are chosen from over 1,100 colleges and universities based on individual statistics, previous awards, milestones and team success.

Greening, the AMCC Preseason Player of the Year and three-time all-conference selection, leads the league in scoring (21.1) and rebounding (14.5) for the second straight season. He is tied for first in NCAA Division III with 12 double-doubles and ranks among the national leaders in rebounds per game (14.5), total rebounds (203) and offensive rebounds per game (6.1).

Clarence "Bevo" Francis is considered one of the most prolific scorers in college basketball history and holds the NCAA Division II record for points per game (46.5) during a season. He starred for two years at Rio Grande College—now known as the University of Rio Grande—from 1952-54 and ultimately helped save the school from bankruptcy.

As a sophomore, Francis set the NCAA Division II record for most points scored in a game with 113 and was named an Associated Press second-team All-American. He was drafted in the third round of the 1956 NBA draft by the Philadelphia Warriors but turned down their contract offer.

Small College Basketball will publish the Top 50 Watch List in February, and it will be narrowed down to 25 players in March. The finalists will be announced in a highlight video April 1, and the winner will be awarded April 3.
