ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Junior Alex Andrzejewski and freshman Kevin Rehak have been named to the baseball All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Third Team, conference officials announced Tuesday.
"It was a good introduction to college baseball for a handful of guys on our squad this year," Head Coach Zach Foster said. "They were asked to step up in some big roles and fill some big shoes of departed seniors and they answered the call. We ultimately fell short of our main goal, but I know the guys who bought into what we are doing have a pit in their stomach and chip on their shoulder for next year."
Andrzejewski was honored as one of the top relief pitchers in the AMCC this season.
"We saw a different side of Double-A this year, and just a glimpse of how good he truly can be," Foster said. "The kid hasn't scratched the surface with his ability. He was an integral part of our bullpen as a swingman, having the ability to start or go long for us. He has swing-and-miss stuff and pounds the zone, which is a huge part of making a successful bullpen arm. The big thing we saw different this year was his attitude on the mound. He had that swagger that no one was going to beat him."
The McKean, Pa., native led the team with 12 appearances and 11 out of the bullpen, spinning a team-best 35 strikeouts and walking just eight batters in 32.2 innings.
The junior led all AMCC relievers with 26 strikeouts in conference play and his K/9 average in conference play was 10.09, the AMCC's third-best and he was just one of three pitchers with a mark above 10.
He went 1-0 with a save in conference play, his win coming on April 10 against Hilbert in which he pitched the seventh and eighth innings and preserved a 3-3 tie. As part of the victory, he fanned all three batters he faced in the eighth inning in order with a 12-pitch immaculate inning. That gave Pitt-Bradford the spark it needed and allowed the Panthers to win it in the bottom of the eighth.
Rehak earned a spot on the All-AMCC Third team as one of the top utility players in the conference having started all 30 games during his freshman season, playing 25 games at second base and five in the Panther outfield.
"Kevin came in and established himself as an everyday player from the time he stepped on campus," Foster said. "His versatility on the field and his energy are what separates him from everyone else. He has a non-stop motor and plays the game the way it should be played. He is cut from the same mold as a lot of our most successful players to come through the program. He is going to be a very successful student-athlete for us."
The Pittsburgh, Pa., native led the team with 32 hits, 11 doubles and eight multi-hit games while finishing second with 18 RBIs, 23 runs scored, 46 total bases and five multi-RBI games. He is one of just three Panthers to start all 30 games this season and he saw the most action of any Pitt-Bradford freshman this season.
His 11 doubles and 107 at-bats both rank 10th in the AMCC.
At his best in conference play, Rehak knocked in 12 runs on a team-best 21 hits with five doubles and a homer.
Defensively, he made just one error all season in 107 chances as he led all regular Panther infielders with a .991 fielding percentage.
Andrzejewski and Rehak helped the Panthers to a 16-14 overall record and a 9-9 mark in AMCC action.
"Huge Congrats to both of them for the work they put in, not only on the field, but also in the classroom and the gym," Foster concluded. "They are both quality young men and I am proud of the way they carried themselves this year."
