Pitt-Bradford Sweeps AMCC Baseball Player of the Week Honors

BRADFORD, Pa. - Pitt-Bradford baseball players Justin Beimel and Tyler Hoops were named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Monday.

The duo played a big role in the Panthers' AMCC tournament first-round series win over Penn State Altoona.

Beimel pitched the Panthers to a victory in game one against the Lions Sunday, allowing three runs, two earned, over seven innings. The senior right-hander surrendered nine hits, two walks and struck out four to earn his third win of the season. It was the Kersey native's second victory in his last three starts and fourth complete-game effort.

Hoops had a torrid week at the plate, hitting .533 with four extra base hits, nine RBIs and 11 runs scored in four games. In the team's victory over Medaille Wednesday, the freshman shortstop accounted for three of the Panthers' five runs, helping Pitt-Bradford secure a spot in the conference tourney.

The Mendham, New Jersey, native totaled five hits, six RBIs, and six runs in the first two games against Penn State Altoona. He connected for his first career home run in the game one victory and had a three-run shot in game two.

On the season, Hoops leads the AMCC in runs scored and total walks and ranks second in on-base percentage.

It marks the first time in both players' careers they have received the conference's weekly honor.

Pitt-Bradford clinched a spot in the AMCC championship bracket Monday by defeating Penn State Altoona, 10-0, to win its opening-round series, 2-1.
