Panthers claim their first win of the season over Elmira, 9-2.

ELMIRA N.Y. – The Pitt-Bradford baseball team came away with its first win of the season as they defeated Elmira College, 9-2 Wednesday.

Junior Bobby Sorokas (Plains, N.Y./Cochranton) went 3-4 on the day with three RBIs and one run scored.

Elmira started out on top scoring in the bottom of the first after a sacrifice fly brought in the first runner of the game.

The Panthers (1-6) would strike back and take the lead away from Elmira after Sorokas lined a single up the middle to bring home two Panthers to make the score 2-1.

Elmira came back to tie the game up in their next at bats after a single to the pitcher brought home a run and make it 2-2 heading into the third inning.

The Panthers would tighten up their defense and continued to produce on offense as they put together two more runs in the fourth inning by way of senior Kody Johnston (Homerville, GA/Clinch County) and senior Connor Borowski (Bradford/Bradford) RBI singles.

After taking a 4-2 lead, the scoring stopped for both teams until the eighth inning when the Panthers put one more on the board after Johnston doubled to right center to bring home freshman Jay Clinger (Edinboro/Northwestern).

Pitt-Bradford shut down the Elmira offense for the rest of the contest and put an exclamation on their first win of the season by putting up four runs in the top of the ninth.

Pitt-Bradford head coach Bret Butler said, "It was good to get the first one and get the monkey off of our backs. We played it aggressively and with heart, had much better approaches at the plate. Kody threw a couple key runners out as well. We need to carry over the adjustments into tomorrow's games as well."

The Panthers will take the field next as they host Hilbert College on April 2 at 1 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.
