FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Pitt-Bradford baseball team took on Rivier University and fell to the Raiders, 10-6.
Pitt- Bradford (0-5) had a tough time in the field as they committed five errors in the that cost them a few big innings.
Rivier (2-5) took the lead early in the second inning as the Raiders scored on a wild pitch to draw first blood in the game going up 1-0.
The Panthers battled back with a huge third inning with RBIs from freshman Jean Turber (Northumberland/Shikellemy), freshman Jay Clinger (Edinboro/Northwestern), freshman Caleb Bennett (Kersey/St. Marys) and capped off by a sophomore Matt Sompel (Scranton/Scranton Prep) double that scored two more Panthers to give them a 5-1 lead.
Rivier came back with a big inning of its own and put together six runs on five hits in the top of the fifth and to reclaim the lead from the Panthers, 7-5.
The day wasn't over for the Raiders on offense as they went on to put up two more runs in the sixth off of Pitt-Bradford errors and tacked on one more in the ninth as the Panthers fall to the Raiders.
Pitt-Bradford head coach Bret Butler said, "We had a tough week record wise, but we played hard and are staying positive. We are very young at a few keys spots and there is a learning curve. We will be anxious to open up the northern portion of the season next week."
The Panthers will return to action at Houghton College on March 19.
