Mission Statement

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III and the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). Athletics is a fundamental part of the multi-dimensional educational experience offered at Pitt-Bradford. The intercollegiate athletic program gives undergraduate students opportunities to participate and represent their institution in competition, while providing our alumni and friends the chance to witness and support on-campus events. The Department of Athletics and Recreational Sports provides the campus community with a high degree of visibility, enhancing the stature of the college and its programs, while conducting all its affairs within the moral and ethical principles of Pitt-Bradford and the spirit of fair play. We are committed to providing our student-athletes with qualified professionals and outstanding facilities to support their athletic endeavors, and with the appropriate educational support to enhance their academic success. The Department of Athletics and Recreational Sports places the welfare of each student above any other consideration, with the primary concern being the overall development of the individual, leading to the completion of their University of Pittsburgh degree.

Integrity

By its very nature, athletics inevitably involves character development. For this reason especially, we must conduct ourselves with utmost integrity. All our programs, and the activities that take place on our behalf by alumni and friends, must be consistent with the policies of the University and the athletic bodies that govern us. At all times we are to be honest and forthright in our dealings with each other and the public.

Teamwork

If there is one concept that drives us, it is our dedication to winning. We compete to win - as individuals, as team members, and as representatives of this University. We clearly understand that the success of any one person is always the result of dedicated efforts on the parts of many people. So, while we are quick to recognize individual performance, we are even quicker to celebrate the achievements of the team

Excellence

Dedication to excellence should distinguish our efforts within every sport in which we compete. It should be reflected in the performance of all our teams and the soundness of our programs. Individually and collectively, we strive always to give our all, and thereby realize our fullest potential.

Leadership

Our goal is to maintain a model athletic program, which other colleges and universities may wish to emulate. Beyond this, we shall continue to initiate and promote policies that will enhance the quality of the intercollegiate athletics program throughout Pitt-Bradford. We value integrity, teamwork, and excellence, which help our student-athletes play important leadership roles locally, regionally, and nationally. These are the values which underlie our endeavors, and the standards by which we live our lives.

A Commitment to Civility

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is committed to the advancement of learning and service to society. This is best accomplished in an atmosphere of mutual respect and civility, self-restraint, concern for others, and academic integrity. By choosing to join this community, I accept the obligation to live by these common values and commit myself to the following principles:

As a Pitt-Bradford Student Athlete:

  • I will embrace the concept of a civil community which abhors violence, theft and exploitation of others;
  • I will commit myself to the pursuit of knowledge with personal integrity and academic honesty;
  • I will respect the sanctity of the learning environment and avoid disruptive and deceitful behavior toward other members of the campus, with those we encounter within the community, and those we encounter during competition;
  • I will support a culture of diversity by respecting the rights of those who differ from myself;
  • I will contribute to the development of a caring community where compassion for others and freedom of thought and expression are valued;
  • I will honor, challenge and contribute to the scholarly heritage left by those who preceded me and work to leave this a better place for those who follow.

By endorsing these common principles, I accept a moral obligation to behave in ways that contribute to a civil campus environment and resolve to support this behavior in others. This commitment to civility is my promise to the University of Pittsburgh and its community of scholars.
