Coach Whitehurst is entering his ninth season as the head men's soccer coach at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
In 2021, Whitehurst led the Panthers to a 5-4 record in AMCC play and the program's first home playoff match in ten seasons. The team once again broke the record for goals in a season, scoring 49. Whitehurst mentored senior Chase Rider to a historical season, as he broke the single-season goal record with 22. He scored 54 points, giving him a point-per-game average of 3.60 which led all of NCAA Division III.
The 2019 season saw Whitehurst lead the Panthers back to postseason play for the first time in 8 seasons. The 2019 team smashed the program record for goals in a season by scoring 43 in 17 contests. Whitehurst mentored freshman Thomas Kelly to a 2nd team All-AMCC selection, and an AMCC Newcomer of the Year Award.
He arrived at Pitt-Bradford from Allegheny College, where he has served as an assistant coach since 2012.
At Allegheny, Whitehurst helped coach 11 NCAC All-Conference players and was responsible for much of the recruiting. While specializing with the goalkeepers, his duties also included game-film analysis, travel arrangements, and assisting with team fitness and training sessions. This past season the Gators finished with a 4-11-2 record and were 3-5-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Whitehurst graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. He earned a master’s degree in sport management and kinesiology from East Tennessee State University in 2011.
Prior to his arrival in Meadville, Whitehurst served as the assistant coach at Emory & Henry College, an NCAA Division III institution in Emory, Va. His role included assisting with the day-to-day operations of the program along with scouting opponents and providing training for the athletes on the team.
