Cercone, Slovick Named AMCC Athletes of the Week

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford saw two of its athletes named Players of the Week by the AMCC on Monday.

Isabella Cercone and D.J. Slovick were named AMCC Women's Swimmer and Wrestler of the Week by the conference after strong performances over the weekend.

Cercone stood out for the Panthers last week as she won all five of her individual races in a pair of dual meets against Alfred and Penn State Behrend. Against Alfred, she won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:17.06 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:09.91. In the long format meet against Penn State-Behrend she won the 200-free with a time of 2:11.60, the 50 free in 26.96 seconds and the 200-breaststroke in 2:52.14. She also posted the best relay legs for the Panthers, anchoring the 200-freestyle relay with a time of 27.35 against Alfred and then posting a 1:00.59 in the 400-freestyle relay against the Lions. Her split against Penn State-Behrend was the fastest in the race.

Slovick had a strong debut for the Panthers, going 4-3 at the Adrian Invitational. Wrestling in the 165 lb. freshman/sophomore bracket, Slovick battled back from an opening loss to win four straight matches. He pinned three opponents and added a 16-0 tech fall. He lost the consolation semi-final match and then finished in sixth place. As the conference has just begun sponsoring Wrestling as an official sport, Slovick is the first player to win the award.

Slovick and the rest of the Pitt-Bradford grapplers will be back in action next weekend as they head south for the Washington & Jefferson Invitational on Saturday. Cercone and the Pitt-Bradford swim team have two weeks off and will return to competitive action in the pool on Saturday, November 19th as they will also travel to Washington & Jefferson for a dual meet.
