Pitt-Bradford Wins Silver Level AMCC Service Awards

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Athletics Department was awarded two silver level service awards by the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference on Wednesday.

Pitt-Bradford received Silver Level awards both for a one-time event, Special Olympics Bowling with a Buddy, and for the Array of other service events that the department has completed.

Special Olympics Bowling with a Buddy is an annual event, held during the fall semester. over 130 Pitt-Bradford student-athletes totaled 390 service hours during the event, held in October. he Panther student-athletes helped keep score and also assisted the Special Olympic athletes bowl while engaging them in physical exercise and social interaction. Pitt-Bradford student-athletes have been bowling with the Special Olympic Buddies for the past 12 years. They provide overall support to the local Special Olympians who will participate in a state tournament. 

Outside of the single event, Panther student-athletes volunteered over 588 hours and raised over $2000 dollars for numerous foundations. Events highlighted included both team service projects, as well as department-wide initiatives. Some of the events highlighted included the "Teal There's a Cure" game, the Hot Paws campaign, youth clinics, and the softball team's Harvest Dinner at Bradford Manor.

Athletic Director Bret Butler said, "I am very proud of our teams for so many reasons.  Our student-athletes have always done a great job on and off the fields of competition. They have also excelled in the classroom and in the community - these recent academic and philanthropic awards make me beam with pride.  Bravo, to all our teams and coaching staffs for these off the field honors!"
