Bradford, Pa. -- Wrestler Mitch Dowd of Pottstown, Pennsylvania has been named The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford's Male Athlete of the Week for his performances between December 2nd and 8th. The Junior went 5-1 on the week including a second place finish at the RIT Invitational while wrestling in the Heavyweight class. 

In the mid-week dual match at Thiel, Dowd picked up the lone Panther victory on the day, pinning his opponnent in 5:56. On Saturday, he earned 20.0 of the teams 28.5 points at the Rochester Invitational. He had a tough match to start the day, as he picked up his first win on a 4-3 decision. He was then able to pin his next three opponents to earn a spot in the finals. He pinned his second round opponent in 4:49, his quarterfinal opponent in 8:30 and his semifinal opponent in 4:25. In the final, he went the distance, losing a 7-2 decision.

On the season, Dowd has accumulated a 17-5 record. He and the rest of the wrestling team will return to action on Monday December 16th when they will participate in the Lycoming Duals.
